Synopsis: The story follows a young hero who was born half chicken, half hare. He is infatuated with adventuring despite his clumsiness, eager to fit in and be liked despite his flaws. With Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness, Ben Stassen, filmmaker, producer, and creator of Belgian studio nWave – who, on this occasion, is in partnership with Benjamin Mousquet – proves his animated picture know-how is unquestionable. The two scenes of all-out daring in which Chickenhare is confronted with a wall of severe and mind-bending challenges, which are fully animated and articulated in a feat of true technical prowess, are particularly noteworthy. The same can be said about the many crowd scenes, especially the army of marshmallow pigs and the smart, evil Hamster, who is actually made up of a slew of miniature neon hamsters. The film’s extraordinarily smooth animation manages to give these faceless yet eerily similar heroes distinct identities.
