Synopsis: Despite some elements of pedestrian film-making, the film occasionally resembles a BBC TV drama. However, it gradually builds up to a powerful and emotional climax, leaving few dry eyes at its premiere during the Toronto film festival. The story revolves around Nicholas Winton, a stockbroker who displayed remarkable bravery during the onset of the Second World War in Europe. Despite his mother’s concerns, he ventured to Prague in 1938 and was immediately appalled by the dire circumstances faced by numerous young refugees, most of whom had little chance of surviving the winter. Although his plan to save them was dismissed as naive by those who had witnessed the harsh realities, he remained determined and returned to London. With the unwavering support of his mother, he tirelessly worked towards obtaining visas and finding homes for the refugees.
