Synopsis: The pregnant Woman, the main protagonist, prepares for a bath while a rainstorm rages outside her London townhouse. The garden soil is drenched, and the electricity flickers off. As she goes into labor, water starts seeping in, flooding the ground floor. Eventually, she reaches the hospital and safely gives birth to the baby. Simultaneously, the film cuts from the hospital to the floodwaters crashing through her home’s windows. The recurring symbolic themes of water, the embryo, birth, and rebirth can sometimes feel overly precious. Accompanied by her husband, R, and their newborn, the three venture out of the chaos of the flooded city to the countryside where R’s parents live. What’s particularly unsettling is that the characters, despite the dire weather and news reports on the radio, appear somewhat accustomed to the crisis, lacking heated emotional reactions. However, the desperation of people, sudden acts of violence, and the government and military’s diminishing ability to provide shelter, safety, and food are among the reasons why R abandons Woman and Baby Zeb.
