Synopsis: The paint-by-numbers parts of the plot especially stand out in theatres when “The Mother” was presented for critics because of the immersive setup. More significantly, it gives Lopez’s face more space. In “The Mother,” which begins with an unidentified FBI informant and her handler Cruise narrowly fleeing from a brutal attack on an FBI safe house in suburban Indiana, That $1 billion mug has a bleak determination written across it. While recuperating from her wounds in the hospital, the expectant former spy gives birth to a baby girl, and the informant instantly changes into The Mother. She has 2 choices. either flees with the child and goes missing forever or gives up her parental rights so that her daughter can live a normal life. She picks the latter option. However, she never renounces her emotional bond. Time is moving on. Similar to her well-known performance as a pole dancer in “Hustlers,” a big part of the thrill of “The Mother” is getting to see Lopez in action. She fights with her hands, swinging a knife. In an urban foot chase, she leaps across the roofs of moving vehicles. When she executes it, even a small action like belly-down on a rooftop loading and cocking a sniper rifle is amazing. With the ease of a seasoned pro, Lopez translates her background as a dancer into intense action choreography. In order to prepare for the climactic action sequence, Zoe and her mother flee to Mom’s cabin for a hybrid bonding activity and wilderness survival course about halfway through the movie.
