Synopsis: In the 1920s, Edith, a well-mannered Christian woman, resides with her controlling parents, Edward and Victoria. Edith has been receiving unpleasant letters in the mail, filled with offensive language and hatred that disrupts the peace in their home. The mysterious writer leaves very few clues, but Edith suspects her neighbor, Rose, who leads a confrontational life with her boyfriend, Bill, and her daughter, Nancy. The situation intensifies when Edith accuses Rose of sending the letters, resulting in the immediate arrest of the single parent by the police due to her inability to pay bail. While the local authorities are quick to dismiss Rose even before her trial, constable Gladys remains attentive to the details, showing interest in handwriting analysis and asking questions to uncover the true culprit, much to the dismay of her male superiors.
