Black Site 2022

Title: Black Site 2022
Directors: Sophia Banks
Writers: John Collee, Jinder Ho
Cast: Michelle Monaghan, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney
Genre: Action, Thriller
Rating: 4.6/10
Synopsis: CIA Officers stationed at a top-secret military black site must play a cat-and-mouse game with Hatchet (Jason Clarke), a clever and brutal captive who manages to escape and retaliates by murdering them one by one. Monaghan, who plays widowed C.I.A. Agent Abby Trent, tries to give a character who, like practically everyone else onscreen, is hardly more than a margin note depth and heart. Abby is in charge of the enthusiastic interrogation of suspected terrorists at the Citadel, a secret underground facility in the Jordanian desert. Just as she’s about to be summoned to Washington, D.C., a team arrives with a high-value prisoner dubbed Hatchet, whom the man questioning Abby has reason to dislike. Jinder Ho’s screenplay crumbles beneath boilerplate dialogue and cliched settings, whether it’s burly brutes force-feeding an Arab inmate or Abby locking horns with a pair of cruel private contractors. When Hatchet finally breaks free and begins murdering his captors, the film jolts with shamefaced excitement for a few moments before settling into a monotonous chase through a maze of gray concrete. This entails a lot of running around in the dark with pistols and flashlights as string-heavy soundtrack strains to conjure up an elusive sense of exhilaration. “Black Site” is a fruitless rehash of war-on-terror cliches. It’s cheap-looking and unpleasant — too many scenes have a sickly green sheen as if watched through a cloud of sickness — and it’s a pointless rehash of war-on-terror tropes. The more bodies that accumulate, the less reason we have to be concerned. These days life is going very busy for everyone.
