Synopsis: Private Property is directed by Chadd Harbold and follows Kathryn, who lives a mundane life as the wife of a “famous” director in Hollywood. Kathryn resents her spouse because he ignores her and continually tells her that she should seek a job on her own. Meanwhile, she sends out audition tapes in the hopes of scoring a role in a respectable film. Their new gardener Ben seemed to have sparked something in Kathryn when their previous gardener vanished, subsequently declared imprisoned. Slow pan shots, which reminded me of the 1980s as Kathryn moved around her opulent white minimalistic estate, were another cinematographic aspect. Kathryn, played by Ashley Benson, appears to be missing at times; perhaps this is the point because she has been cut off from her own life for many years. As a result of Hollywood’s fame frenzy, her monotonous life is isolated from the outside world, stranded on a hill where no one even speaks to each other.
